Moomba

Moomba Festival - 5th to 8th March

In its 55th year, the Moomba Festival is Melbourne's best-loved and largest community festival, celebrating the city and it’s unique multi-cultural community. 

The festival boasts live music, sport, art and culture, children’s entertainment, the infamous Moomba Parade and the festival favourite - The Birdman Rally.

Food and Wine Festival

Melbourne Food & Wine Festival - 12th to 23rd of March

Visit Melbourne in March and enjoy mouth watering local and international produce in a series of food and wine events across the state. From taking part in the World’s Longest Lunch (this year in Chinatown) to learning how to become a gastronomic genius in master classes taken by the city’s world-renowned chefs...  Indulge in this year’s Food and Wine festival and your tastebuds will rejoyce with inspiration.

Melbourne Fashion Festival

L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival - 14th to 21st of March

From Milan to New York to Paris... the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival brings together the best international and Australian designers. Showcasing their outstanding talent, these designers take over Melbourne’s catwalks, sidewalks and galleries with their newest designs. The public has free access to many events, and the festival has as it's aim the excitement of the general population about fashion, and stimulation of ideas exchange, design trends, and business innovation.

Flower Show

Melbourne International Flower & Garden Show - 24th to 28th of March

Mighty Helpful Mitre 10 present this year’s annual
International Garden and Flower Show in Melbourne - reknown as the biggest annual flower and garden show in the Southern Hemisphere!  

Set in the beautiful Carlton Gardens and world heritage-listed Royal Exhibition Building, the event showcases Australia’s top floral and landscape designers and is suitable for all ages.  Stunning floral displays combine with the latest retail garden and floral products, fantastic food and great entertainment for the entire family. Grand Prix

Melbourne Grand Prix - 25th to 28th March

Australia’s premier motor sport event begins at the end of March; The Australian
Formula 1 Grand Prix is held at the Albert Park street circuit in South Melbourne. Come along and enjoy the fast-paced action and excitement!
The return of infamous driver Michael Schumacher to Formula 1 racing is sure to draw a big crowd, along with live music by Powderfinger and Simple Minds.

Motor sport fans will not only revel in Formula 1 racing but also the V8 Supercars, The Australian GT Championship, the celebrity Mini Challenge and much, much more.

Comedy Festival

Melbourne International Comedy Festival - 24th to March to 18th April

This is one of Melbourne’s most popular and uplifting festivals. It's a time when Melbourne’s theatres, bars and comedy clubs come alive with laughter as the
Melbourne International Comedy Festival hits town.

For 3 and a half weeks the comedy festival showcases Australia’s best comedians, nurtures and develops the countries up-and-coming artists and presents world-class international comedians.

This is the time that Melbourne becomes the centre of the comedy universe. If you’re interested in side-splitting entertainment then the Comedy Festival is simply a must.

ANZAC Day

ANZAC Day - 25th of April

This is the date that marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War.  This is a sombre occasion in which Australians and New Zealanders show their appreciation for and pride in their wartime heroes.

Commemorative Dawn Services are held at dawn across the nation. In Melbourne the service is held on the edge of the picturesque Royal Botanical Gardens at the Shine of Remembrance.
Later in the day ex-servicemen and women meet and join in marches through the city, ending at the Australian War Memorial.

Visitors can visit the Memorial's world-class museum and extensive archive.
The day is also traditionally celebrated in true Melburnian style at the MCG (Melbourne Cricket Ground) with the annual Essendon versus Collingwood football match. Over 90,000 people attend this blockbuster match every single year as part of honouring the ANZACs.

Jazz Festival

Melbourne International Jazz Festival - 1st to the 8th of May

Come along and join the 'cool cats' of jazz for the annual
Melbourne International Jazz Festival.
Supported by the City of Melbourne and Arts Victoria the Melbourne International Jazz festival plays host to Australian and International jazz artists, with over 55 events over 7 days and nights at various venues across the city.

Keep your eye out for free concerts at Federation Square, Master classses, South Walks at the National Gallery of Victoria, Jazz for Kids, Jazz on Film at the Australian Cinema of the Moving Image, late night jam sessions - and much more. Music enthusiastis - this is one festival you must not miss!

Mamma Mia

Mamma Mia - 13th February to 30th May

Set in the Greek Islands, Mamma Mia tells the story of a daughter’s quest to find her father on the eve of her wedding. This production is a heart-warming comedy that intertwines brilliant story-telling with ABBA’s timeless music.

Mamma Mia is being performed at one of Melbourne’s premier theatre locations, the beautiful Her Majesty’s Theatre; tickets are available through Ticketmaster.

CHICAGO at Her Majesty’s Theatre Melbourne - 15 August to 8 November 2009

Those who love musical theatre will be thrilled to have the opportunity to see Chicago – one of the world’s most popular and exciting hit musicals.

Chicago has been honoured with numerous awards, and has seen standing ovations all over the world. Filled with incredible choreography and a sizzling score, the cast includes talented celebrities and performers including Caroline O'Connor, Sharon Millerchip, Craig McLaughlin and Gina Riley.

It’s playing at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre – one of Melbourne’s famed and beautifully restored lyric theatres. With an Art Deco interior it boasts a capacity of 1700 seats, yet the auditorium is renowned for its intimate setting.
